For the very first time outside of the London and New York, the three-time Olivier Award-winning musical will begin its next chapter in Australasia, with a major tour of New Zealand and Australia from May through to October 2027.

And there could hardly be a more fitting moment to announce the next chapter for a musical that reminds us all to make every second count.

From its acclaimed West End season, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has continued its extraordinary journey, with a new production currently playing to sold-out houses at New York’s Public Theater. Now the story travels to this side of the world, bringing its big heart, foot-stomping score and remarkable actor-musician storytelling to audiences in Wellington, Christchurch, Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

An electrifying odyssey through the timeless tale of a love that defies all odds, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an enchantingly beautiful and truly unordinary musical. Based on the short story of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby and The Beautiful and Damned, it is relocated to a small fishing village on the north coast of Cornwall.

Under the light of a full moon, something most curious occurs… Benjamin Button is born old. Bound to the fate of growing younger each day, Benjamin wants nothing more than to live a little life. But will he ever find a place to belong? Only time and tide will tell…

Brought to life by a company of 15 extraordinary actor-musicians playing 30 instruments, the production bursts with heart and a sweeping live score. Epic in scale and intimate in feeling, it won three Olivier Awards in 2025, including Best New Musical and Outstanding Musical Contribution by New Zealand’s own Darren Clark for Co-Music Supervision, Orchestrations & Arrangements with Mark Aspinall.
